The Sad Summer Festival 2023 welcomes headliner Taking Back Sunday. The Long Island natives released their debut album, Tell All Your Friends, in 2002. Although the album performed moderately on the charts, it became a cult favorite among pop-punk fans. The album was included in “best emo albums” lists from various music publications, including Rolling Stone, NME, Alternative Press, Junkee, and more. The album sold over one million copies worldwide, 500,000 of which were sold in the U.S.
In 2004, Taking Back Sunday made a phenomenal breakthrough. Their sophomore effort, Where You Want to Be, peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Independent Album chart. The gold-certified album was preceded by the critically acclaimed single “A Decade Under the Influence,” which peaked at number 16 on the Alternative Airplay chart. By 2006, the band has soared to number 2 on the Billboard 200 with their third album, Louder Now. The highly-acclaimed record spawned the hits “MakeDamnSure” and “Twenty-Twenty Surgery,” both topping the U.K. Rock charts.
