He’s just a good ol' country boy playing some good ol' country music. And underneath the mountain-man exterior, there is a rich-as-syrup baritone and a lot of heart and soul.
Jamey Johnson turned the clock back to good country music when he smashed into the industry in 2006 with his debut single, the title track from his debut album, “Dollar”. His second album, “That Lonesome Song”, shot right to the top, achieving platinum status for selling more than one million copies and also producing two hit singles, “In Color” and “High Cost of Living”. “Guitar Song” debuted at number 1 on the Billboard country album charts. As if that isn’t enough, Jamey Johnson also racked up numerous awards: “Give It Away” and “In Color” both won the Academy of Country Music Song of the Year award, respectively, as well as the Country Music Association Song of the Year awards, and received no less than 11 Grammy Award nominations. Jamey Johnson is also the recipient of an honorary doctorate from Jacksonville State University.
Our heroes have always been cowboys, and those who play exceptional country music. Jamey Johnson’s music is a powerful hotpot of blues, folk, pop, southern rock, and country; he is the definition of Americana and outlaw country. Armed with an old oversized guitar named “Old Maple”, chock-full of signatures from his musical influences, friends, and heroes, such as Neil Young and Kris Kristofferson, Jamey Johnson gives fans the best of him, leaving audiences in absolute awe. While there is little conversation, there is a lot of musicianship, celebrating country music the way it should be: through song.
Jamey Johnson will be supported by special guest, singer-songwriter Drake White. After releasing his debut single, “Simple Life”, in 2013, Drake White went on to release three studio albums, five extended plays, and four singles.
We can’t wait for the magnificent Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill to be filled with timeless sounds; comfortable, cool, calm swagger; and the soul-stirring sounds of multigenerational country. There is no better way to spend a fantastic summer evening than by taking in the beautiful surroundings while listening to one of the best country musicians of this generation.
