Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill
The obscure and funky Cali band Primus are back on tour!
Back with their new tour titled “Onward & Upward”, Primus will be playing at the Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill on July 16th in the magnificent Sterling Heights.
Primus have always stepped outside the box with their music, videos, themes of each album and even live performances. They bring a fluidity level of bass and drums that are sure to get everyone moving. For the fans of bass-heavy songs, you’d dig the band’s top hits “My Name is Mud”, "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver" and "Tommy the Cat".
Joining them on stage is the incredibly fitting American musician, Ty Segall.
So come’n down to Freedom Hill where you’ll find friendly faces everywhere and great music!
California’s legendary freaky-funk band Primus are back on the roads with their new headlining tour “Onward & Upward”. As part of the tour, the band will be playing at the Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre in Sterling Heights on July 16th.
They won’t be playing alone. The trio is supported by the incredible multi-instrumentalist Ty Segall, making this an eccentrically dark and funky gig, just as Primus would want it to be.
Primus is an American rock band from California. The trio band was formed in 1984 with original members Les Claypool on Bass and Vocals, guitarist Todd Huth, and drummer Jay Lane. Both Huth and Lane were replaced in 1989 by guitarist Larry "Ler" LaLonde, and drummer Tim "Herb" Alexander who became prominent members of Primus for many years, forming the “classic” lineup alongside Claypool. Primus have released nine studio albums to date, each carrying significant stages for the band, with the most notable being “Sailing the Seas of Cheese” and “Pork Soda”. The third album “Sailing the Seas of Cheese” was the major breakthrough for the band with hits "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver" and "Tommy the Cat" both making it onto MTV. However, the 1993 dark album “Pork Soda” broke the barriers even further with the popular single "My Name Is Mud" leading the album to receive a Platinum certificate. Although the band has seen long gaps between each album release since the late 90s, Primus kept active by touring relentlessly either as headliners, special guests or at the big festivals.
Primus is also known for shaping some of the pop culture’s established TV shows, Movies and even Video Games, namely featured tracks for the cult classics The Beavis and Butt-head Experience, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and the original intro theme song for the long-running animated sitcom South Park. Primus thrives on the underground and subculture scenes where art, music and creativity collide most authentically.
Ty Segall is an American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He started his music career as a part-time musician for many underground bands in Orange County and San Francisco. In 2008 Segall released his self-titled debut album “Ty Segall” and has released 15 studio albums since. His music is often described as Psychedelic Rock, Indie Rock and Garage Rock and is rather popular amongst Spotify users with over 400 thousand listeners each month globally.
