Deep Purple are true British rock royalty. The song’s lyrics chronicle the true events of the 1971 fire at Montreux Casino in Montreux, Switzerland, but it is the iconic guitar riff that stamped a permanent footprint on the rock world, the heavy attitude of the notes played in a phrase that nearly everyone on the planet instantly knows, even now.
